Receive of passports and other documents applied for in Hungary - Consulate General of Hungary

Receive of passports and other documents applied for in Hungary

If you applied for your new passport/ID card or other official document in Hungary and requested it to be sent to the Consulate General in Edinburgh, a consular fee must be paid for the delivery. If you applied for your new passport/ID card or an official document at any other Hungarian Consulate and asked it to be sent to the Consulate General in Edinburgh, you do not have to pay consular fee for the delivery. Consular fees are listed here.

If you expect a passport/ID card or other official document from Hungary, please send us an e-mail at konz.edi@mfa.gov.hu with the following details:

  • your name, date of birth,
  • address in the UK,
  • which type of documents do you expect,
  • the date when you applied for the passport/ID card/document in Hungary.

DELIVERY OF DOCUMENTS IN PERSON

We'll send you a notification confirming your document is ready to collect. For this, an appointment is required and can be scheduled online

Documents required:

  • the application form (Hungarian ‘IGÉNYLŐ ADATLAP’) that you got when you applied;
  • your valid passport or ID card;
  • if you still have a valid Hungarian passport or temporary passport you should hand it over for invalidation.

If you cannot come in person due to some special reason, you can entrust someone else to collect your document on your behalf. For this, the following is needed:

  • The proxy shall possess a valid authorisation letter to collect the document. This letter has to involve the personal data of the client (authoriser) and personal data of the proxy as well.
  • The authorisation letter should be signed in front of two witnesses.
  • The proxy shall possess the copy of the valid Hungarian passport/ID card of the witnesses.
  • The proxy has to present a valid ID card or passport upon collection.

Should you have any question regarding this, please contact us at konz.edi@mfa.gov.hu.

DELIVERY OF DOCUMENTS BY POST

The Consulate will send out a notification email and post the passports within 3 working days using Royal Mail services (as “signed for” delivery).

All deliveries receive their unique tracking number generated automatically by Royal Mail on the day of postage.

The Consulate does not take any responsibility for the Royal Mail services or for any losses or damages that may occur during delivery.

Should you not receive your document within 8 days after having received our notification email, please doublecheck whether there are any circumstances regarding Royal Mail that could justify the delay (e.g. strike action). Should this not be the case, please get in touch with us via email as soon as possible to have the tracking number assigned by the Royal Post so that you could track possible delivery failures (e.g. whether the delivery address was entered incorrectly) at the provider.

If you wish to file a complaint directly to the provider regarding the delivery, please click here.

Should there be any changes to the postal address provided at the time of the application, it is the responsibility of the applicant to have the postal deliveries redirected to your new address as follows:

in case of deliveries to a Hungarian address, such enquiries can be made to the provider Magyar Posta;
in case of deliveries to a UK address, you may enquire at Royal Mail.

Passports returned back to the Consulate and marked as ‘not called for’ are stored for one year. Any passports not collected within a year from the receipt of our first notification email will be sent back to Hungary to the issuing authority for having them destroyed.

The Consulate may send documents by post only within the territory of the UK under the following requirements:

  • the consular fee (36 GBP) has to be paid via bank transfer – for more information, please contact us at konz.edi@mfa.gov.hu;
  • the application form (Hungarian ‘IGÉNYLŐ ADATLAP’) that you got when you applied;
  • copy of your valid passport or ID card;
  • if you have still valid Hungarian passport or temporary passport you should send it to the Consulate for invalidation;
  • a self-addressed return envelope (without mark);
  • if you would like to keep your  previous passport, please indicate it in your cover letter.
